Recipe | Malay Style Steam Fish (Ikan Stim)

Recipe                                     : Steam Fish

 

Translation                               : Steam (Stim), Fish (Ikan)

 

 

Ingredients                              Weight

 

Fish                                         500gm
Onion (big)                              2pcs
Garlic                                      2pcs
Ginger                                     2cm
Lemongrass                            1pc / 3 tablespoon (sliced)
Coriander leaf                         10 stalks
Lime Leaves                            4 pcs (optional)
Lime                                        3pcs
Salt & White Pepper                to taste
Methods of Cooking:

 

1. Cleaned fish and put on casserole. You may use any type of fish with any cuts of fish. Depending on your preference.
2. Rub fish with salt and pepper.

 

3. Put on top of fish, the sliced onion ring, ginger (julienne), lemon grass (thinly sliced) and chopped garlic.

 

4. Squeeze Lime juice and pour on the fish.

 

 

5. Heat the steamer until the water in the water in the steamer is boiling. You may view in you tube how to use a food steamer. Make sure hot water is always 1/4 of the steamer pot to prevent dried pot.
6. Steam fish for 20-30 minutes or
For microwave use : Place fish in a covered casserole. The casserole need to be covered during cooking in the microwave.

 

Put in microwave power high (10-15 minutes depending the microwave: watt) and the size of fish. Small cut of fish can use microwave as a cooking method.

 

7. Test the fish using fork by removing a bit of the fish flesh and check if the fish is already cooked.

 

8. Garnished the cooked steamed fish with chopped coriander, spring onion after removing from the steamer.

 

9. Ready-To-Serve with steamed white rice. You can eat the steam fish on its owned.
